Midnight Mixtape 3k20

by Parker Strauss

Midnight Mixtape 3k20 is supposed to look like the feeling of drifting off to sleep with headphones in and suddenly being off the planet, dreaming with a soundtrack. The concept for this art came from a desire to take the edge off reality and create something otherworldly to escape into. Moments in popular culture and music that capture the imagination are brought together from different times and places, making the past, present, and future indistinguishable from one another. In doing so, this creates the visual equivalent of a Mixtape, where music and ideas exist together free of the parameters of time and space.

Heavy inspiration for the dreamy futuristic aesthetic comes from sci-fi movies like Blade Runner, Tron, and Akira. These films are set in mysterious cities lit by vibrant neon lights, where the moon always seems to be out. The composition and arrangement of the artwork was also inspired by film shots. Every image is meant to tell a story, but it’s up to the viewer to decide for themselves what exactly that story is. There’s just something so fascinating about the possibilities the world holds when the sun goes down, Midnight Mixtape serves to bring those possibilities to life.
